Inlay is the Granada craft par excellence, heritage of the Arab presence in Al-Andalus and continually improved over the centuries and by the artisans who work with it with care and elegance.

It is believed that this art dates back to the 14th century, influenced by the ornamental work carried out on the embossed and polychrome leather of 12th century Córdoba.

Once the technique and the designs were transferred to Muslim Granada, the wood inlay was enriched to, already in the Christian era, and always inspired by the ornamentations of the Alhambra, achieve the splendor of this very traditional craft. whose learning has been transmitted from parents to children.

The Taracea artisan works with very diverse materials, such as bone, mother-of-pearl, selected wood veneers, among which are walnut, mahogany, cedar, moral, socomoro,... Cutting and removing strips, creating stars and fretwork of different shapes and colors, which once assembled and cut, are glued to the surface of the wood, until it is completely covered as if it were a mosaic, forming the most elaborate designs and complex shapes.

Once the piece has been lined, it is polished and varnished.
