The lattices of the Alhambra are a source of inspiration for many of the companies that are dedicated to the manufacture of wooden lattices for decoration . Its borders and geometric designs take us to the monument and take us into its history.

    The lattices of the Alhambra

In Nasrid Granada , wooden Arab lattices were widely used to divide the feminine spaces from the outside. Behind them, the women hid, although they could see and observe everything that was happening around them without being seen.

According to studies, the lattices of the Alhambra were found in the palaces, although it is not known with certainty where the latter were located, they were probably the upper floors.

The techniques for manufacturing Hispano-Muslim lattices were the atarejado where the pieces are put together and joined on a base, or the apeinazado where the pieces were assembled together.

Furthermore, the wooden lattices of the Alhambra served to generate fresh air currents in summer, which is why they were located near fountains and ponds. As well as depending on its layout and drawings, filter the light or let it in.

What are the most famous lattices of the Alhambra?

In the Alhambra Museum in the Palace of Charles V , you can see different Arab lattices from the Nasrid period , since the exhibition is continually changing, the most famous Alhambra lattices are:

    Bed room lattices

    Alhambra lattice bed room

The lattices in the bed room were made after the Mudejar reforms of the 16th century. Its construction technique is based on assemblies that alternate with the lasso rule to intersect the lasso ribbons above and below.

This lattice construction technique allows us to see how each assembly joins together without the need for any metal reinforcement. In addition, the decoration in combs allowed several colors to be integrated.

The color sequence of this Hispano-Muslim lattice of the Alhambra was black, red, black, black, red and black.

The lattice of the greater qubba

lattice of the alhambra qubba major

The Nasrid latticework of the largest qubba was located in the Hall of Two Sisters of the Palace of the Lions , closing one of the openings on the upper floor. It was a fake window, where it hardly shed any light, but it did let you see the outside. You could see the Lindaraja Viewpoint, the garden and the Albaicín neighborhood.

It is a piece of Nasrid wood that is built by drawing loops and decorated with turned wheelbarrows. It was made of pine wood and originally the color of its wood was gray tones on the inside and red, white and black on the outside.
