La Taracea is the finest craftsmanship of Granada, a heritage of Arab presence in Al-Andalus and continuously improved over the centuries and by the artisans who work with pampering and elegance.
It is believed that this art dates from the fourteenth century, influenced by the ornamental works that were carried out on the embossed and polychrome hides of the 12th century Córdoba.
The technique and designs were transferred to the Muslim Granada, and the enrichment of the wood inlay was carried out. In the Christian era, and always inspired by the ornamentation of the Alhambra, the splendor of this traditional trade, whose learning has been transmitted from parents to children.
The craftsman of the Taracea works with very diverse materials, such as bone, nacar, selected wood veneers, among which are walnut, mahogany, cedar, morocco, socomoro, ... Cutting and pulling strips, creating stars and greens of different shapes and colors, which once assembled and cut, stick to the surface of the wood, covering it completely as if it were a mosaic, forming the most elaborate designs and complex shapes.
Once the piece is lined, the polishing and varnishing of the piece is done.
